For many people, one of the daunting parts of moving house is the process of transporting their most fragile and valuable items. Here are two ways in which a typical removalist will handle a client's most valuable and fragile possessions, to ensure these things stay safe when they're moved.
They use the appropriate handling techniques and packing supplies
When a person needs to transport expensive, delicate items during a house move, they'll often ask their removalist to not only provide the packing supplies for these items but to also pack them. Removalists who receive this request will take great care to ensure they use the right type of packing materials and the correct packing and handling techniques for this process. For example, if asked to pack delicate crystalware, a removalist will usually wrap each piece of crystal in packing tissue, then wrap it in a layer of bubble wrap, before placing it into a double-walled box. They will then usually fill in any gaps between each piece of crystal with styrofoam packing peanuts, which will keep the crystalware stable, even when the box is being carried.
Likewise, when packing valuable artwork, removalists will not only wrap the artwork with plastic wrap but may also use custom-made crates, that the artwork can be slotted into. They will also take extra care when they handle these items. For example, even if a box of expensive crystalware is relatively light and the removalist could technically carry it by themselves, they may still ask a member of their team to hold one side of the box, so that even if one person's hand slips whilst they're holding it, there will be almost no chance of the crystalware being dropped.
They use specialist equipment
The second way in which removalists keep their clients' fragile, expensive items safe when handling them is by using specialist equipment during this process. This may include furniture pads, which can be placed under heavy, valuable furniture items so they slide across floors' surfaces and will be less likely to tip over and so the furniture's feet won't get scratched. Additionally, removalists will use trolleys to load and unload things like heavy, valuable sculptures, as this is less risky than carrying such big, expensive objects in their arms.
Furthermore, if a removalist's client has a collection of valuable, fragile items that could shatter if subjected to too much vibration (like a collection of antique porcelain figurines), they may also use a moving truck that has an exceptionally-good suspension system for this client's move. This will minimise the amount of shaking and jolts that these delicate items are subjected to during transit.
